Learn Levantine Arabic

You Want To Learn Arabic But Don’t Know Where To Start For One Of The Following Two reasons:

You either don’t know which Arabic you should learn?

What are the best resources for learning Arabic?

My name is Khaled Nassra, and I have been teaching Arabic since 2008. I run Arabic courses in the City of London, including Levantine Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic, and Intensive Arabic courses. It all started in Damascus, Syria, in the old city, If you find yourself in this wonderful place, you are in luck! I moved to London in 2011, where I run one of the leading Arabic language schools for teaching Arabic to diplomats and international students.

From my experience in this field, I noticed that beginner students face many challenges when it comes to learning Arabic.

One of the most common questions I got asked was: “What Arabic should I learn?” MSA, Fusha, Classical, Media Arabic, and Levantine Arabic.

The Natural Way to Learn Arabic

First, as a native Arabic speaker, I was born in Syria (Damascus). The first language I was exposed to was Levantine Arabic, which covers four countries (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine). Then I got introduced to Modern Standard Arabic only when I went to school. And, of course, this applies to all Arab children in the Middle East. We first learn Levantine Arabic, then when we go to school, we learn Modern Standard Arabic and keep in mind that at school, the teacher still communicates with us in colloquial Arabic to explain any ideas related to our learning.

The button line is: We never used classical Arabic activity, we only learned it passively. Levantine Arabic was the only active language we used throughout our lives.

Learning Levantine Arabic is The Easiest and Most Natural Way To Get Started.

When you learn Levantine Arabic, people all over the Middle East will understand you. This dialect lets you chat with anyone from the region because it’s one of the most popular and widely understood Arabic dialects.

Once you can speak Arabic confidently, you can move on to what I call “Specialized Arabic”, such as Media Arabic and Standard Modern Arabic, and then sophisticated Arabic. This is the 3-system formula that I use when teaching Arabic privately one-to-one as well as in my online Arabic courses.

When it comes to Arabic resources, there are many Arabic YouTube channels, books, and online courses that are available on the Internet, but unfortunately, many of them follow the academic way of learning that requires a lot of attention to grammar, writing, and few courses that offer lessons in practical conversational Arabic.

Over the past 15 years, I have published several books and online courses that use a Proven Modern Method, so rest assured you will have all the resources you need to speak Arabic fluently within 6 months of working with me.

This book is excellent and the author clearly has a wealth of experience in teaching Levantine colloquial Arabic. It has clear concise examples which are used in EVERYDAY LIFE, unlike what I have found in a lot of other books. Whether you already know MSA or are starting out as a beginner, this book assumes no prior knowledge of the Arabic language and is entirely self-contained.

I have tried in the past to learn Arabic by going straight into learning phrases and words. I got nowhere. By beginning with the Arabic alphabet and vowels, this book provides a better method for me. You feel like you are patiently building skills that provide a secure bedrock, one that then allows you then to move much faster. Beginning slowly to go fast, if you like. The exercises neatly allow these skills to be built up and secured. Highly recommend.

I couldn’t recommend this book enough. If you are interested in learning Arabic, then you should definitely buy this book. My general understanding of the language is so much better and the examples are so helpful. The updated version has corrected all the minor typos, and it has benefitted my learning greatly. 10/10! One person found this helpful.

With an overabundance of MSA textbooks, finding texts that go into the detail of learning methods for Levantine Arabic is rare. What is additionally rare is textbooks that do not overwhelm you or start from an intermediate level (it seems like many other books relating to Levantine Arabic assume you have a background in MSA).

This book will get you reading, writing and speaking Levantine Arabic with confidence and not feel you are left behind. You feel aided every single step of the way.

This book by Khaled Nassra, is simple to follow and perfect for learning Levantine Arabic. I highly recommend it to people who are new to the Arabic language. I have used many other textbooks in the past this is by far the most effective book. It supports learning new vocabulary, sentence structures and pronunciation of the Arabic language in colloquial dialects.

This is an excellent book and I cannot recommend it enough!! It avoids the issue other language texts have and instead teaches vocabulary and phrases which you can use and which work to encourage you to learn more to develop your sentences. It is easy to get into so you can use it independently to get yourself set up with Arabic or brush up on your own skills if you are a bit rusty. The problems encountered in the first edition seem to be gone as well.

In short, this is a fantastic book and invaluable for anyone looking to learn Arabic – you need to have this!!
